An updated checklist and biogeography of the Sardinian large branchiopods, with a focus on Spinicaudata (Crustacea, Branchiopoda)

The large branchiopod fauna of Sardinia is reviewed based both on literature and newly collected data. Based the available evidence, 13 taxa are present island (8 Anostraca, 2 Notostraca, 3 Spinicaudata). Among them, finding spinicaudatan Leptestheria dahalacensis new for Sardinia, while spinicaudatans Cyzicus bucheti Eulimnadia sp. were overlooked in most recent synopses due to misidentifications. Conversely, tetracerus Limnadia lenticularis, previously erroneously reported misidentifications, must be excluded from Sardinia. first record Europe northernmost genus. occurrence rather unexpected probably its accidental introduction linked with rice cultures. At least four Sardinian species absent Italian mainland Sicily, stressing uniqueness significant contribution Mediterranean inland water crustacean diversity.&nbsp
